Chord charts overview

A chord chart is what you perform from: chords aligned over lyrics, organized into sections. A song can have any number of charts — different arrangements, different keys, a scan of the original sheet.

Two kinds of charts​

  • Editable charts — structured chords-over-lyrics that Stagemates understands. These can be edited, transposed on the fly, and rendered at any text size. Created from ChordPro, from AI conversion, or by an AI assistant.
  • Document charts (PDF / Image) — a scan or photo kept exactly as-is. Shown with a type badge; they can't be edited or transposed, but they're perfect when you already have a chart you trust on paper.

Charts created by AI carry a Sparkles "AI" badge so you know to give them a once-over.

The default chart​

One chart per song is the default — marked with a filled star. It's the chart that setlists and quick actions use unless told otherwise.

  • The first chart you create becomes the default automatically.
  • To change it, use Set as default on another chart. (You can't unset a default — pick a different chart instead.)

Chart states​

AI-converted charts import asynchronously:

  • Converting… — the AI is still working; the chart fills in when ready.
  • Failed — something went wrong; the error is shown with a Try again action.
